KK Poetry Broadsides, Part 1
Posted by ashley mcneill on
The (currently Austin-based) poet Kaci Kai hired us to print two poems from her upcoming book, It Happens to Strong People, Too. She and I decided to do a limited edition run, with all handset type, one hundred of each.
Working with our collection of moveable type is something I want more experience with in 2018 so I was thrilled to get this job! Due to scheduling and deadlines, we did the shorter of the two, "Endeavor," first.
Part of the "fun" of being the second, third, fourth, or tenth owner of equipment is that not everything is labeled properly. After we selected the font from a list I thought would be suitable, I find out that not only was it mislabeled, but that there were three different fonts in the same type drawer, not just two sizes of one style! (Adding that drawer to my Reorganize project list...)
Since I'm more focused on typesetting this year, it did take a few adjustments to get the type looking so. Trent, the more experienced typographer, helped suggest where to add spacing between the letters, and I took most of his advice.
